PulseOx PI Interface for NICU
This project aims to fix the problem of pulse oximeters in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) not recording data from newborn patients in a way that can be used later. Pulse oximeters measure how much oxygen is in the newborn’s blood. Our solution is a special device that connects to the pulse oximeter, which will capture and store a newborn’s data. Doctors can look at it later to see how the newborn is doing over time and see what actions could be taken in the future to improve outcomes.
Dr. Elie Abu Jawdeh from UK Pediatrics initialized this project with our group. He is an expert in children’s health and will supervise the quality and correctness of the data stored on our device. The device itself is a Raspberry Pi, which is a small but powerful computer, running our custom software. We chose the Raspberry Pi because it is good at handling and storing data.
Right now, the device is in beta currently and awaiting final approval for production.
