One Good Choice (1GC)
Dietary choice plays a crucial role in overall health and wellness. Still, many individuals find it challenging to assess the balance of the nutritional quality and calorie content of their meals. Making a “good choice” is a challenge which is problematic given the rise of chronic disease linked to nutrition, such as diabetes and heart disease.
Unlike traditional calorie or food trackers, which passively track food intake, One Good Choice (1GC) is a dynamic, decision-making tool that proactively engages users. By leveraging cutting-edge retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) techniques, the system connects with individuals, offering personalized recommendations and detailed nutritional insights at the point of decision making—one meal at a time.
1GC is designed as an accessible support tool that empowers users to make healthier food choices in real-time. Through the integration of multiple nutritional databases, the system employs an LLM to process user input and provide tailored advice, helping users evaluate both the nutritional quality and calorie content of their food choices. The system uses both text and visual cues to guide users, presenting clear alternatives that help steer them toward healthier decisions.
This tool is currently in development in collaboration with health and wellness experts from the College of Health Sciences and University Health Services. The primary goal of this effort is to help Kentuckians improve their nutrition through an accessible, easy to use, informative, and judgement free platform.
