Coverdell
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Paul Coverdell National Acute Stroke Program (PCNASP) supports state‐based efforts to improve the quality of care for patients with stroke. The Coverdell grant was awarded to UK Healthcare to improve stroke outcomes in Kentucky. We work with Kentucky hospital-reported Get with the Guidelines (GWTG) data from 2021 to 2023 to analyze stroke patient data. We compared acute in-hospital stroke mortality rates for PCNASP‐participating hospitals on the basis of patient residence in a high- versus low-mortality county and county of residence level of social deprivation. Using Tableau, we generate reports for these hospitals to view their own statistics and compare their stroke outcomes to similar Kentucky hospitals. Age‐standardized in‐hospital death rates (calculated using census data) and discharge‐to‐hospice rates were used to provide assessments of hospitalization outcomes.
Data for the current study are not publicly available due to data‐sharing agreements between participating hospitals and American Heart Association data use restrictions.
