Conversational AI Agents for Medical Education Settings

AI is transforming the educational landscape, offering opportunities to develop efficient solutions that create more adaptive, personalized, and impactful learning environments. Leveraging AI offers not only elevated student engagement but also stands to help educators by shifting the focus from monitoring for AI misuse to leveraging AI-driven assignments that enhance engagement.

Large language models (LLMs) can be used to power highly interactive and immersive educational experiences. CAAI has developed templated modules for generating synthetic personas and conversational AI agents, replacing static vignettes and training videos with dynamic, AI-driven assignments. This approach is particularly valuable in fields like human services and medical education, where realistic interactions enhance training and skill development. Through these AI applications, trainees can interact with AI personas that mimic patients, clients, or colleagues, allowing them to build and test their skills in a risk-free environment.

This experimental effort is part of a collaborative partnership with the College of Medicine’s Office for Medical Education.
