FABRIC Application Services

CAAI has created application services designed to run on FABRIC as part of the FAB project. FAB projects are intended for science domains related to HEP, CMB, LSST, IoT, and Weather research. CAAI has created an international infrastructure enabling cutting-edge experimentation and research in networking, cybersecurity, distributed computing, storage, virtual reality, 5G, machine learning, and science applications.

NDN-ServiceX

NDN Project Overview

This project uses the Named Data Networking (NDN) protocol as an alternative to the Internet Protocol. ServiceX, a program that performs transformations on large datasets from CERN and delivers the transformed datasets to end users, was modified to use the NDN protocol to transfer files. Considering NDN uses in-network caching, subsequent requests for files pull from a cache rather than from CERN. This makes file transfers significantly faster.

Caching Service

This service will allow users to utilize caching when pulling large datasets. These large datasets will be cached in FABRIC, and end users will pull datasets from the first hop. This increases the speed of these file requests considerably.

The project is complete.
