NAPLEX Pharmacy Exam Pass Rate (implementation of CLASSify)
At UK, the passing rate on the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX) dropped below the national average for the first time. Existing literature from colleges of pharmacy across the US has not provided clear insight into why overall pass rates are declining or whether at-risk students can be identified for early intervention before they take the NAPLEX.
Dr. Doug Oyler immediately recognized the potential to possibly identify at-risk students based on the information available to UKCOP administration. The user-friendly format of CLASSify and ready-made visuals reflecting output from a variety of models was specifically appealing.
Dr. Oyler and his team were able to use CLASSify to accurately categorize students in the prior graduating class based on over 30 academic variables and use outputs from high-performing models to identify potentially at-risk students in the class of 2025 for targeted outreach. Currently, there are plans to refine the models with final output from the class of 2025 to continue to build a predictive model for 2026 and beyond.
